Abandoned at Speers Point

This B&W is taken from a 3 exposure HDR merge in Photoshop. I'd love to get inside and take some more but not sure how stable the whole building is!!

Outta Gas

My daughter Kasey and I were out driving a few weeks back. We passed this old Petrol Station at Speers Point and I vowed to go back because it looked so unique. It was a lovely day today and so I took the opportunity! Taken from a single RAW file with the colour saturation and hue adjusted.

Taken from a single RAW file and processed in Photoshop Elements 8. I really like the crisp, clear capture of the writing on the side of this old petrol bowser.

Window to the Underworld

Originally I had 3 different exposed shots taken of this to eventually merge into a HDR. Unfortunately, when I got home I found that I must have had some dust on my Wide Angle lens and that the auto focus of the camera had used the dust as its point of reference! Therefore the real subject was out of focus. This was originally the over exposed shot [-1 EV] which for some reason did not show up the dust and, was in focus. Thanks to shooting in RAW format and also Photoshop Elements, I was able to adjust the exposure post processing and ended up with this great shot! RAW format gives so much more opportunity to correct any small problems.

Steam turned out to be Cheaper

The only thing that disapponted me about this shoot was that the bowser dials had been zeroized! I was hoping to find a ridiculously low price still showing! Alas, 'twas not to be!

Love the perspective of this shot. By the way, that is the graffiti artists red paint on this bowser and not blood from some crime scene!!

Enter at your own Risk

This house is right next door to the abandoned petrol station at Speers Point so I got a bonus shoot for my troubles! I used a wide angle lens for this shot because the road behind was fairly busy and I could get the whole thing in from the front footpath rather than cross the road and play chicken with the traffic!! I have discovered 'Perspective Crop' in Photoshop and hopefully it may correct some of the keystone effect that comes from shooting with a wide angle lens.

Bathroom Renovation Begins.........

Yep, there is a lot of banging coming from the batroom as we speak.....the sound of a jackhammer.......cold chisel and mallet on tiles.....out with the old and in with the new!!   Cant wait!

So, wot has occurred in the past week or so?

Lachlan has picked up a brand new Nissan Dualis TI a week ago today; it's a great looking car [must post some photos!!].   I turned 51 and had a great night; a family celebration at home turned into a last minute party with neighbours and some of Kaseys' friends who popped in also.

Our dog Kaiser is going thru a second childhood.   He is almost 16 years old and frankly a cuppla months ago we had all but written him off; he was very sick.   The last week or so has seen him carry on like a puppy each morning!  He runs into our bedroom of a morning and runs rings around the kitchen bench when we finally  get up!

I have had a couple of weeks off also.  Haven't done anything really extravagant though; got those odd jobs around the house done, gardens tidied up, trees trimmed, shrubs hedged.

I've been out with my camera and got some great shots which I am really happy with.   There are so many subjects that I want to capture on the camera that I dont know where to start!   I have experimented with the HDR [High Dynamic Range] thing and now want to move onto timed exposures.  Before I can to that however, I need to buy a Neutral Density Filter which compensates for the over-exposure of timed exposure shots in the daylight.

We had hoped to have a garage sale this month and clear out all of the crap so we could maybe get one car into the garage.   ALAS!!!  We actually had to squeeze everything closer together to create more space for the 2 x new vanities, 2 x new toilets, floor tiles and pallet of wall tiles that will be making up our new bathroom and ensuite!

I have included some photos of our current bathroom.   As u can see, the loverly colour combination of apricot [maybe it is salmon pink?], champagne pink cupboard doors, some other pink colour in the tiles, the shower screens which were discoloured and mouldy when we moved in, are just some of the reasons we have decided to renovate.   The grout was so bad in the main bathroom shower that the sand/cement bedding that the tiles sit on was coming out from in between the tiles themselves and whatever grout was left in between the tiles was so dirty we could not get it clean!   The ensuite was basically the same.

Anyway, I hope everyone is as well as we all are!

Love to all

Rust Never Sleeps

There are some awesome chains lying all over the sand underneath the wharf at Catherine Hill Bay. I really love the textures in the rust!

They are huge; my handspan wouldn't go half way round one link! I am thinking that they must've been used to assist in mooring the coal ships off shore or something.

Catherine Hill Bay, NSW. HDR from 3 shots with wide angle lens. This is such a tremendous spot although I have to sort out the tide information so I can get there and get to the other side of the wharf where I believe there delights awaiting my lens! I also have to figure out sunrise times and location - a sunrise shot from here would be brilliant I think but that also depends on the tide and whether or not I can get down underneath the wharf. The tide rises pretty high underneath the wharf and I wouldn't want to get caught out!
